The tradition of Louisville Basketball may not be known to everyone.  Perhaps many people do not know the exploits of Denny Crum, Darrell Griffith, Pervus Ellison, Billy Thompson or any of the other historic  Cardinals. But Yesterday a little known player, one who seldom plays, put Louisville basketball on the map; his name is Kyle Kuric, a little  known sophomore Guard, from Evansville, Indiana would  be the key player to close out the storied and historic venue: Freedom Hall.  Kuric was the key player, who  put Louisville in a position to to secure a bid to this years NCAA tournament despite their 20-11 record.

Kuric scored 22 points, all in the second half, the most in his career.  He scored on four  three point shots and we delivered on four sky walking dunks in the mode of Doctor Dunkenstein Darrell Griffith to defeat Syracuse, the number one team in the country. It was Louisville’s day, closing out Freedom Hall’s run as the home arena for the Louisville Cardinals.  The Cards will move into a brand new 22,000 seat riverfront home in Downtown Louisville in the fall of this year.  It was an important game for Louisville, an NCAA bid was at stake, Freedom Hall had a great sendoff. The nation found out more about the tradition of Louisville Basketball, the devoted and enthusiastic fan base,  and what Louisville Basketball  means to the city of Louisville.

Last year was one of the most challenging years in terms of economic standards that we have faced since the great depression. Our economy has emerged from an economy that the world depended on nearly a decade ago to one where America is now a debtor nation.  We saw the United State nominate the first African- American President.

One could say that we experienced progress in the arena of racial tolerance. And one could also say that we experienced a decline in the concept of the America dream.  The middle class is slowly shrinking away; and is now defined as those who have and those who have not. Food prices continue to escalate as Gas prices continue to soar. State governments and city government continue to lose money and casino now emerge as a way for states to collect more money and more taxes. Yes casinos are going bankrupt as well.

In short no Democrat or Republican can fix the mess that we are in. President Barack Obama cannot fix it.  We are in downward spiral; a free fall that no one know where it will end. We refused to do what is best for America; like provide healthcare for all Americans. Yet the economic divide between rich and poor continues to increase its separation.  That my fellow Americans is our challenge and make no mistake; it is a difficult one.

What do we need do to make our way out of this mess?  We need to “do the right thing” ………that is our slogan and marching orders.

America is an assortment of  communities, mostly rural that weave a fabric around our diversity of cultures. The never ending flow of lifestyles that seem to  depict what it really means to live, work and play in America.  The diversity of communities are ruled by  master characteristics, which may at it’s basic level,  be conservative, liberal or staunchly in the middle.  The lifestyles play out that simple characteristic.  We’re not defined by  the same views, but more driven by regional characteristics.  Yet it is more complicated than that. When you break it down were influenced on a micro level, in differences between city to city, community to community.  Block to block, school to school.  That is  the essence of America. Each community has it’s own concerns, it’s own problems that cannot be duplicated.  That is what it means to be American. It means that we are different; house to house, city to city.  The dream is our ability to live our lives independently from one another. That’s what brings us together; the unmistakable diversity and the freedom to exercise our diversity. That  is the fabric that weaves us together. The fabric that makes us one country. The fabric that makes us Americans.

Whether you like her or not Sarah Palin has a knack for attracting an audience.  Tonight she appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  It beginning to look a lot like  Palin can draw a crowd. Trust me; people are taking notice, most recently Jay Leno. Celebrating his second night of his return to his late night slot, Leno is taking advantage of  Palin’s star power to draw  an audience and attempt to overtake the late night leader, Dave Letterman.

No one knows for sure if Sarah Palin will throw her hat into the ring as a serious contender for the office of President of the United States.  But the political posturing will be interesting.

Derrick Caracter saga continues. It seems like every year there is a Caracter  chapter or mini series. This time it involves Caracter who has resurrected his career at UTEP. Not only did he resurrect his career, but UTEP has clinched the Conference USA title. Of course Caracter’s goal is to make it to the NBA, perhaps he will, but if there were ever a basketball vagabond; that would be Derrick Caracter.

What would be ironic is that Caracter leads UTEP to the NCAA tournament and his former team, Louisville may not make it. Another scenario is that UTEP actually meets Louisville in the NCAA tournament.  Stay tuned the saga continues.

The New Orleans Saints made history yesterday.  Give the people in the New Orleans  there due, simply because of all the devastation, the loss of  hope that many may have experienced. Yes they deserve their moment in the spotlight, because the Saint signify the struggle of a region. The Saints are New Orleans. The Saints experienced the ups and downs that the city itself experienced.  The Saints and the people of New Orleans know what it means to be counted out. The people of New Orleans were floored by  Katrina,  yet they got back up, staggered and hurt.  They both  took a swig of water; suddenly they were revived, just like the Saints.

New Orleans continues to rebound;  continues to rebuild  and there is more than just  “Hope For Stanley” there’s hope for everyone in New Orleans; now they know that even in the midst of  a terrible storm;  New Orleans survived by the grace of God.   So it was with the  Saints  who were able to shock the world and come back from football destitution to win the biggest game that any football player would give anything to win;  the Super Bowl.  New Orleans though still recovering, redefined itself through the Saints.  The two, the people  of New Orleans and the Saints are the definition of resiliency.

Barack Obama continues to be attacked by nearly everyone. Members of his own party who make racial comments (Harry Reid and take your pick among the others), members of his own party who call him weak and indecisive, members of his own party who say he is too conservative and not  liberal, members of his own party who say he too liberal and progressive. Where does the buck stop? Mr. Obama says it’s stops with him and he’s right.

The trouble is Obama is so focused on being politically correct and safe in nearly everything he does that  he has lost his identity as a person, which is the main reason for all the attacks he has received from the left and the right.  You cannot serve two masters and think you  can lead a country. Most people really and truly want to know where you stand on issues; on anything. Obama is so set on treading water in the middle ground, that will be his undoing and perhaps dash any hopes for a second term.

He has not endeared himself to either the right or the left because of his waffling and indecisiveness and he can’t seem to  pull himself out of this hole.  He is a likable person, but he is the cause of all the problems he faces. Obama must learn you cannot serve two masters, pick one; or resign yourself to the fact you will be one term in the White House and out or better yet “one and done”.

Is Donovan McNabb on the hot seat in Philly?  He continues to under achieve in the playoffs and it appears that Philadelphia Fans and the media are getting a little perturbed with him.  With  the second drubbing of the Eagles at the hands of the Cowboys, this time 34-14, many are wondering is this McNabb’s swan song ?   Perhaps it should be.  He has lost his skills and really has not met expectations during his reign as top quarterback  for the Eagles.  I don’t know the answer; perhaps no one does, but it’s time for the Eagles to zero in on a new quarterback of the future.

President Obama continues to work diligently by working first with Congressional Democrats and now with Senate Democrats on the heals of  passing sweeping Health Care Reform in Congress.  Obama’s main argument is that Health Care Reform cannot help but improve the  economy while driving down health cost and keep the insurance industry honest. The economy continues to improve modestly, But President Obama feels Health Care Reform will help to jump start the economy ever further.

As the economy continue to  operate  on a fragile time line, unemployment continues to hover at an increasing rate. The current unemployment rate is currently over 10 percent.  Many corporations  continue to  downsize and layoff workers. The  Obama  Administrations’ view is that Health Care Reform is the final piece of the puzzle to bring  back the economy from it tailspin.

The Buffalo Bills  have not  made the playoffs in over nine years. While many teams in the NFL such as the Minnesota Vikings, have spent big money bringing in established stars like Brett Favre, who came to Minnesota accustomed to  their strategic football offense. Brett Favre’s raw determination and grit has helped Minnesota to remain competitive and greatly improved their chances of making it to the Superbowl.

The Buffalo Bills have not had such success with their football product. The have continually fielded teams with economics in mind, but this strategy has done nothing to improve their chances of making the playoffs.   The Bills have done all they can to obtain bargain basement players by downsizing in the area of player talent. Ralph Wilson is now an aging owner and it remains to be seen if he can ever bring the Bills back to respectability.  Meanwhile  western New York continues to search  for the elusive talent stimulus to infuse the team.
